Networking eCS & Win 7

networksIntro

I tried to get a 100 percent solution down, but that did not happen. Hopefully Samba 4 will solve most of these issues when it is rel3eased.  One thing for sure is it possible to connect with Win7, I skipped version 8. With Windows 10 I can see Win 10 shares, but can not connect to any shares.

The EVFSGUI client with the standard install of eCS 2.2 does not work for me and I do not remember about eCs 2.1, but either way they both should be updated. Below is what I'm using - this method is very insecure and a better way is here - http://www.eracc.com/content/ecs-samba-client-windows-7-professional.

I think I figured out the client side out for eCS 2.x

If you do use Yum, then use steps 3, 5, 6, 7, 8.

http://trac.netlabs.org/samba

1) kLibc 0.6.6 Library - kLibc Runtime libraries required by all Samba related installations. Do not use them if you have a yum/rpm env.

2) GCC 4 Core Libraries - GCC 4 runtime libraries required by all Samba related installations. Do not use them if you have a yum/rpm env.

3) REXX libraries 1.1.1 - Several REXX libraries required for running the Samba GUI Tools, please, uninstall any older revision of this package!

4) RPM base DLLs 1.5 - Several DLLs (updated 17/04/2014) from the rpm/yum package used by recent Samba builds. Do not use them if you have a yum/rpm env. (The following DLLs are found in this package: readln6.dll, tinfo5.dll, urpo.dll, mmap.dll, popt.dll, z.dll)

5) ndpsmb-2_2_0-Beta4-20140226.wpi

6) smbclut-1_3_beta1-868-20141127.zip

7) evfsgui-25RC7-20141213.zip

NOTE: the lmhosts file is not prsent in eCS 2.2 and need to be created 8) add below to the lmhost file - if enties are not added for your Samba server & a course change to  IP-address   NetBIOS-name to match your system.

Win7 to eCs

After more testing this the above upgrade seems to be a hit or miss over all :( and really pissing me off ! On a new eCs install it worked, my production install failed, another new install failed, then work, SMH. However, installing Samba server below seem to fix everything.

NOTE: before using the server

Both our 3.5.xx and our 3.6.xx builds suffer from a common problem, which we were unable to fix for the last 2 years (as it is hardly reproducible, it just occurs frequently): They tend to corrupt the server .tdb files internally which depending upon which .tdb file is corrupted brings down the server or not....

We know that it happens more frequently the more cores your CPU has and the faster your CPU is...

We have some users that do not experience the problem at all. Your mileage may vary...

Setting up an eCS Samba server ....

If you do use Yum, then use steps 3, 5, 6, 7, 8.

And make sure to get ftp://os2user@os2notes.duckdns.org/Samba%20Server/Iintl6i.dll

5) ndpsmb-2_2_0-Beta4-20140226.wpi

6) smbclut-1_3_beta1-868-20141127.zip

Samba server:

ftp://os2user@os2notes.duckdns.org/

Password: os2

After installing ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/samba/server/samba-1-2.wpi server install updates:

1) ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/samba/server/test/samba-3.6.24-1.3.0-874.zip
2) ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/samba/server/guitools/smbmon-25RC8-20150113-test.zip

After updating smbmon-25RC8-20150113-test.zip or Samba Status Monitor check the tab TDB files to see if all are correct and the server is working correctly (see attached pic).

And finally I messed things up so bad I had to uninstall everything and use the three wpi from the DVD to re-install everything. So you can start over too, use this way if you don't have backups of your system drive. You may get an error starting the EVFS client after a re-install, just update the client to evfsgui-25RC7-20141213.zip to fix that (evfsgui-25RC7 may overwrite your lmhosts file).

NOTE: if your tmp directories are on a RAM drive the install for Samba server will fail.

Could everyone post want their setup is for everyone please !
